Medscape is seeking to expand its stable of freelance journalists and editors with experience in writing medical/health news for physicians and consumers. The ideal candidates will be available/interested in writing quick-turn stories as well as longer turnaround articles with more context and perspective. You'll have a strong nose for news, curiosity about a variety of medical specialties/topics, and the ability to research and bring yourself up to speed in any unfamiliar areas. We encourage story pitches with unique angles and a variety of content types (daily news pieces, features, profiles, Q&As, investigative stories).
You'll need basic medical knowledge, solid news writing and/or editing experience (at least 3 years, but more experience is also welcome), superior ability to write an accurate, timely, and balanced news story; excellent attention to detail; a great contact list of sources, and comfort with tight deadlines.
Fees range from $250 for a brief to $500 for longer stories to more for features and complex/investigative articles.
Interested freelance journalists and editors should send their resume and clips to Madeleine Haase at mhaase@medscape.net.
