This section isn't about what to watch, but how we in the audience stream or otherwise consume popular art and culture today. It's a remit that touches every medium—movies, TV, music, gaming, and more—and engages with how algorithms and capitalism define our lives now.
The big question I want to address is: How do we navigate that? And how do those forces define our experience with that culture? If our streaming habits are as diverse as we are (and they are), what interesting stories can they tell us?
In the new gig I'll be looking for pitches that address some of these questions. I have a sweet spot for anecdotal, narrative pitches about hyper-specific experiences that engage with these platforms and the internet at large on a human level.
Expect to see continuing daily service journalism, news, and deals on the section too!
Right now rates will vary by story and writers' experience. I'll try to share more detailed guidelines as I dig into the new gig a bit.
RATES:
Hard to put exact numbers on it, but I can't imagine assigning any original feature or essay for this section for less than $350.
