Getting into the swing of things in the Jurisprudence section and wanted to say: pitch me! I am looking to expand our coverage to take on some of the major issues in criminal justice today.
Maybe you're thinking about prison abolition, or voting rights, or civil rights, crime coverage, policing issues, or criminal justice reform .. send me your most surprising thoughts neatly compiled into a 1,000 - 1,200 essay.
The best pieces start with a news peg and then help us make sense of that news. Tell us why it matters, or why we're thinking about it all wrong. Give us the little-known history or debunk a few myths. If you've got some original reporting, that works too.
I am also interested in real-world examples of solutions to long-standing problems. Or essays that chart our way out of a particularly thorny issue. Remember we are a national publication, but local issues are an excellent way to explore a larger trend.
Whatever you do, please be sure to read this post on how to pitch us.
TL:DR: read our site. use google. make a good argument. send the full draft. tell us about yourself. Don't pitch my peers if I say: no, thanks.
Got Pitches? Questions? Drop me a line.
AGAIN: I really ask that people read the guidelines. We follow the news. We are mostly opinionated / reported essays about that news. We tend to pay $250 - $500 for pieces between 1,000 and 1,200 words.
