I’d love your pitches—pieces that decipher a diagram, map, photo, or other visual.
An annotation isn’t only a story that can fit the format. It’s one that puts the visual first, treating it as a window into bigger questions, contexts, and histories. The image should be fascinating on its own, offer enough details to annotate, and pull on longer threads.
Your pitch should include the image (or a few options), the reason it’s worth looking into today, and a sense of how you’d annotate it. I’m excited about any subject and approach—a reported dive, an odd rabbit hole, a curious reframing—as long as it demands the treatment.
We tend to pay $1/word for these ($1,200, usually), but there is a slight range depending on the level of reporting and research involved.
