The Timken Company seeks a freelance writer to create articles that highlight the research, insights and successes of our global business and industry-leading portfolio of engineered bearings and power transmission product brands. Working with the corporate communications team, the writer will interview subject matter experts to create articles that speak to Timken’s success for three distinct audiences:our investors, recruits and customers. We seek someone who can communicate with top-tier engineers and explain their work in dynamic, contextual and human-sounding articles.

SKILLS

Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Strong attention to detail with top notch editing and proofreading skills.
A proven ability to write toward our targets: customers, recruits and investors
Demonstrated work writing for businesses about engineering, renewable energy and business.
Previous experience in interpreting brand voice a plus.
Ability to research topics with a journalistic eye for detail and accuracy, and synthesize complex information quickly.
Skilled at digesting engineering and scientific concepts and eloquently summarizing it in an externally-facing, consumer-friendly manner.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

3+ years experience interpreting science and engineering concepts to a general audience.
Compelling storyteller and general knowledge of SEO.
Up to date on the latest science news.
Passionate about science and engineering.
Resourceful storyteller who knows how to create compelling, shareable stories.’
Keen understanding of metallurgy, tribology and power transmission a plus
