I accept general pitches. Here's the reported pitch instructions. Reported Pitches: Story pitches for reported pieces should include a news or analytical hook that covers a current event, trend, or social justice movement through the lens of faith along with a 1-2 paragraph summary of the idea and at least three confirmed or potential sources. Please provide links to writing clips if you have them, as well as a short bio and headshot. Email completed pitches with the words "story pitch" in the subject line. Rates for reported pieces are typically between $250-350, most often $300, depending on the rigor of the piece!
I am also looking for a reporter based in/around Atlanta metro, who can cover a story at the intersection of race, local politics, and faith. Must have some reporting chops and familiarity with U.S. church traditions.
Time spent reporting would be between a week and two, and we can pay $350. The story would involve finding interviews with diverse local churches in Atlanta, including Black churches, evangelical churches, and mainline Protestant churches; it would also involve researching and reporting on some ongoing political campaigns. We are hoping for someone with basic reporting skills and familiarity with religion and the local history/context of Atlanta. Interested writers can email me for more details with subject: “Atlanta freelance.” Interested writers should also include relevant clips or a link to their website.
