At Uproot Project we’re dedicated to advancing the careers of journalists of color, connecting members with publications, training, and community as we navigate the work ahead reporting on the environmental crises of our time.

The Uproot Project is looking for a contract based Newsletter Writer.

As a newsletter writer for Uproot Project you will be pivotal in helping connect our membership database with timely industry related content, as well as members-only events, and job lead opportunities. We are looking to elevate members' profiles in support of network expansion, as well as facilitating an inclusive culture where all member voices are relevant and encouraged.

Pay: $300 per issue

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

• A master at simplifying content, able to articulate information in a concise format, digestible in under five minutes.
• Understands journalists goals and needs to ensure the direction of the newsletter evolves in a manner that is both interesting and relevant.
• Believes in the Uproot mission actively representing that for members through content development, and a collaborative approach with the Steering Committee Responsibilities:
• Produce an insightful and researched bi-monthly briefing product on events, updates, and other related industry content (i.e. trainings, conferences)
• Create engaging content that foster BIPOC journalists relationships, development and engagement
• Coordinate with Uproot Project Steering Committee and staff to ensure detailed information is accurate and appropriately represented

DESIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Experienced working with minimal direction to produce regularly delivered content
• Knowledgeable if not subject master in Google Suite and Mailchimp
• Experience coordinating across multiple lanes of input and at all levels
