PODCAST SCRIPT WRITER
Today I Learned: Climate (TILclimate), MIT’s award-winning podcast on climate change, is seeking a scriptwriter to work with the host to research, draft and edit scripts for a general, “climate curious” audience.
TILclimate, produced by the MIT Environmental Solutions Initiative, is a short-form narrative-style podcast. We weave interviews with scientists together with thoughtful explanatory narration, to produce 10-15 minute episodes that break down the science, technologies, and social aspects behind climate change for a public “climate curious” audience. Part of our goal is to be relatable, easy to understand, and appealing to people across the political spectrum, while providing a look at not only what the science says, but also how science is practiced. TILclimate is nonpartisan, science-based, and does not advocate for specific policies; we create episodes that give listeners a jargon-free explanation of often confusing climate change topics, to help them make informed decisions for the future.
Each episode of TILclimate features a single guest expert on an important climate change-related topic. The scriptwriter will generate scripts, weaving quotes from the interview with the host’s narration to clarify complicated points, tie together concepts, and create a cohesive and compelling explanation of the topic. The scriptwriter will receive a research brief on the episode topic, participate in the expert interview, lead a team pitch session, and work closely with the host and Associate Producer to draft and revise episode scripts.
WE’RE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO HAS:
- Podcast writing experience
- Experience with a scripted style of writing (as opposed to a reported style)
- Excellent skills in distilling complex/scientific concepts into clear, everyday language
- An intermediate level of climate change knowledge (for example, understands the difference between “clean energy” and “renewable energy”)
We are looking to immediately hire either an experienced contractor (self-employed) or a professional (on hourly pay).
To apply, please send to tilclimate@mit.edu:
- Your resume
- Letter of interest
- Relevant examples of your podcasting work (scripts and links to episodes) and the role you played for those pieces
