Red Mallard is currently seeking additional Content Writers to add to our pool of independent contractors. We are a small but growing content marketing agency headquartered in southern California. Our mission is to transform our clients’ expertise into stories for the web and in print. We work with clients across a diverse range of industries and sizes, from mid-sized local firms to large, multinational public companies.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a Content Writer with experience writing for clients primarily in the legal field. The ideal candidate will have a breadth of experience writing sophisticated content for professional audiences in practice areas such as corporate transactions, municipal law, estate planning for high net worth individuals, and commercial real estate.

Content Writers work with our in-house client services managers and content strategists to develop and execute content plans in accordance with client requirements. Projects vary by client and by the writer’s capacity, but may include drafting website content, recurring blog posts, special projects like white papers and sales sheets, and ad copy. In connection with their work Content Writers typically perform research and conduct interviews. Some projects may involve creating plain English versions of attorney-drafted memos for use on firm blogs.

This is a remote, independent contractor position. Content Writers sign a standard contract and will be assigned work under task orders with varying duties and project lengths.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum 5 years of experience writing content for clients in the U.S. legal industry, ideally for a wide diversity of clients.
• Demonstrated aptitude writing content addressed to a sophisticated professional audience. B2B is more important than B2C for us.
• Ability to efficiently tackle unfamiliar topics to craft engaging "plain English" copy.
• Commitment to high editorial standards.
• Curiosity and willingness to learn to write effectively about niche industries.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to meet regular deadlines.
• Willingness to collaborate and incorporate editorial feedback into future work.
• Ability to work independently.

IDEAL EXTRAS

• Understanding of SEO and other web and social media strategies.
• Professional experience other than as a writer, especially in law.
• Willingness to take on additional projects outside of the legal field for other professional services businesses.
• Education background in law. Recovering attorneys are welcome to apply.

Red Mallard is building a home for writers. We have high standards for our writers and we expect to pay accordingly. Our goal is to find people who want to work with us for the long haul, and who we want to make a part of our growth plan. We compensate writers based on their experience and project scope.
