We cover careers and work. I’m looking for freelance pitches as we try to expand our coverage beyond the actionable advice we’re best known for.
What does that mean? We’re looking for reported features, essays, perspectives, maybe even humor pieces that shed light, provide insight, reframe, and capture zeitgeist at a moment when careers, work, and culture are shifting and evolving in a big way.
What does that look like? It depends! We’re hoping to try new things.
What are some of the topics we’re interested in right now?
- Pandemic, Great Resignation, boomerang effect, etc.
- Return to office, remote work, hybrid work, etc.
- Work culture/future of work
- Early career
- Burnout
- DEI
- Mental health
- Four-day work week
What can we pay? Fees will vary—especially as we’re exploring new formats and types of stories—based on the scope of the piece, reporting required, etc. But most pieces will pay $300+ and we’ll consider going up to $1/word.
How many pitches will we take? We’ll be going for quality rather than quantity, commissioning a handful of pieces per month.
How do you pitch? Send me an email with the subject line “Pitch: [your idea in a nutshell]”. Include:
- Sample headline
- Brief pitch (1-3 grafs)
- Sentence or two about you
- 2-3 clips (as similar as you have to what you’re proposing)
