Three Creeks Media is looking for freelance writers to cover subjects related to finance and benefits for the military and veteran community. The mission of our military finance websites is to enhance the lives of veterans, service members and their families by providing digestible, researched and credible finance and benefits news, information, guides and analysis.

Compensation: Pay per article is typically 50 cents per published word.

RANGE OF COVERAGE:

Topics of interest to our audience include relevant policy updates, retirement planning, saving, investing, real estate, consumer deals and discounts, crypto, disability benefits, education benefits, life after the military (transitioning, civilian job market, etc.) the housing market, base/military housing issues and more.

IDEAL CANDIDATES:

• Have a strong grasp of AP style and news writing, attribution, research and interviewing
• Are adept at breaking down complex information and processes into digestible, interesting articles for your audience
• Are military veterans, spouses or journalists with significant, demonstrable experience covering the military community, OR certified financial professionals who have worked with the military community
• Are familiar with the military community, the unique programs and opportunities available to it and the unique challenges service members, veterans and their families experience
• Understand personal finance and benefits subjects important to the military community.
• Are familiar with the government decisions/schedules that impact benefits and programs available to military members and veterans
• Are comfortable with deadlines and constructive feedback

WHAT WE WANT TO SEE FROM YOU IN THE APPLICATION PROCESS:

Please include your CV or resume highlighting your connection with the military community as well as any relevant journalism experience. During the application process, we would also like to see some writing samples and at least one story idea.

ABOUT THE WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Three Creeks Media is a new media company committed to educating consumers about mortgages, real estate, personal finance and veteran benefits.

As a TCM freelancer, your schedule is as flexible as you want it to be, but when you accept an assignment, we expect clean copy turned in on deadline.

You'll have opportunities to take assignments from your editor and are encouraged to pitch your own ideas for helpful, original guides, articles and how-to's, backed by strong SEO research.

TCM freelancers work in a supportive, collaborative atmosphere. You'll join a slack channel where you'll interact with your editor and meet other talented writers and copyeditors working to build TCM's new brands by bridging important information gaps for the military community.
