Who We Are: A digital publication covering Houston events and destinations, seeking 1 to 2 writers that are based locally that can take over long-term projects in the following niches:

• Weekend Events (General)*
• Weekly Events (General)
• Monthly Events (General)
• Weekly Nightlife Events (Bars, Clubs, Concerts, etc.)

* Ideally, the same writer will be handling Weekend, Weekly, and Monthly General Events.

Pay: Minimum pay is 10 cents/word, but we pay upon deliverables. With the right fit, a writer could make upwards of $400/month. Happy to talk more specifics in DM.

Tasks: You will be responsible for the research, curation, and descriptive writing of events taking place in the city of Houston and its greater suburban communities.

Working with our event staff, you'll be tasked with finding events for your articles and entering them into our database. Events will be from a diverse range and appeal to large audiences; for example, concerts, sports, comedy, food and drink, festivals, kids and families, etc.

You will curate from the larger set of events, selecting 10-20 events (weekly or monthly lists), or 50-75 events (weekend list) that will be highlighted in respective articles.

You will write 1-2 sentence descriptions of each event that are informative but not exaggerated or overselling to the reader.

You'll have some help on research, as we have other staff that also do event hunting, and much of your work in the first two steps will overlap across articles, so you won't be starting from scratch between them.

We estimate these tasks will take approximately 10 hours per week for a new writer, though that varies by person and should take less time as the writer becomes familiar with our process.

WHO YOU ARE: OUR CRITERIA FOR NEW WRITERS:

Based in Houston (some travel or remote work is fine, but the writer should generally live in Houston and be aware of events and changes happening in the city).

Can write to Style Guide (while descriptions will be your own, formatting is strict on our site and we would like to work with writers who are familiar with the process of writing to Style Guide form)

Have a genuine interest in the city and the different organizations and communities that make up the massive area we call Houston.

This is a long-term opportunity that can provide more projects and pay later in 2022. We're also open to pitches for article ideas and series once these positions are filled.

Qualified writers may be asked to provide brief samples (less than 150 words) of their writing based on our format guidelines before formal offers. Writer portfolios are also very welcome.
