Writer wanted (science) | ~$200 per article

COMPANY/PUBLICATION: ADVANCED SCIENCE NEWS

Advanced Science News is looking for a motivated freelance writer to contribute weekly submissions that cover exciting developments in the scientific community. The ideal candidate will have strong communications skills and the ability to identify emerging research/topics, translate complex information into digestible content for a broad audience, and write engaging news stories across a wide range of scientific disciplines.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Pitch, research, and write weekly news articles and other feature-length content
• Develop contacts within the research community to stay abreast of new developments, obtain insights/quotes for articles, and to fact-check information
• Collaborate with ASN editors throughout the editorial process

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field
• Education and/or experience in science communication or journalism a plus

REQUIRED APPLICATION MATERIALS

• Please submit a resume and cover letter describing your interest in and suitability for the position
• Three writing samples:
• Please send either links to published articles or email them as PDF documents
• These can be 300–500-word samples or full-length features
• Applicants may also submit unpublished writing samples if they do not have a portfolio — feel free to select a recent manuscript (please include a link in your sample) and write an engaging news story catered to a broad audience.

Base rate: €175/article
