Arlington Magazine is seeking talented freelance writers to cover food, health, shopping, design, the arts, local culture and other topics for both the magazine and website. We are actively seeking freelancers now, so submissions within the next few weeks would be great.

Arlington Magazine is seeking talented freelance writers to cover food, health, shopping, design, the arts, local culture and other topics for both the magazine and website. First-hand knowledge of our coverage area—Arlington, McLean and Falls Church—and what’s happening on the ground is key.

Our readers are active and engaged locals who want to learn things they don’t already know about the place they call home. We seek writers with excellent reporting skills, a knack for creative storytelling, a distinct voice, a finger on the pulse of the community and the ability to find a unique angle. Many of our stories have a strong service-journalism component.

Arlington Magazine serves a diverse community and seeks contributors who reflect that diversity. We are actively seeking writers of varied backgrounds, ages, abilities, ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientations, life experiences and viewpoints.

NOTE: Reports indicate that this opportunity will pay a flat rate of $100-$200 for web stories (although sometimes a bit more if it's a big roundup or a story that requires a lot of reporting). Print stories are negotiated as a flat fee, but the rate is usually anywhere from $.55 to $.85 per word. If hired, it is recommended that you immediately discuss the rate(s) with the editor/ employer.

Published six times a year, Arlington Magazine brings the editorial and design standards of a national magazine to the community, while covering the lives and lifestyles of local residents. Engaging and informative, the magazine’s coverage focuses on restaurants and food trends, real estate and home design, people, community issues, education, parenting, health and fitness, fashion, events, travel and local history.
