Pitches wanted (abortion funds, reproductive justice) | $500 to $1,200 per article
Added 2022-02-07 17:15:03 +0000 UTCCOMPANY/PUBLICATION: SCALAWAG
Do you have experience working with or at abortion funds or other reproductive justice groups in the South? Pitch us a story (we pay!): https://scalawagmagazine.org/submissions/
We're especially interested in working with—and paying!—people who are well sourced in the movement space and know not to flood support lines with casting calls for sources.
Our base pay rates now range from $500 to $1200 depending on the level of reporting involved. We may also be able to cover extras like records requests, travel, and photography.

TO HELP YOU CRAFT YOUR PITCH:
- Learn more about the publication: Scalawag aims to spark critical conversations about the many Souths where we live, love, and struggle. It amplifies voices of activists, artists, and writers to reckon with Southern realities as they are, rather than as they seem to be.
- Read through a selection of recent abortion-related articles/stories on its website.
- Review the submission guidelines here.
- Check out our collection of pitch excerpts on this page and find more sample pitches at The Open Notebook Database and at SuccessfulPitches.com.
- Do not forget to end your pitch with (1) a short introduction about yourself; (2) a paragraph highlighting your writing experience, relevant credentials and publication credits; and (3) links to your strongest work or portfolio, and online profile.
