Mic is accepting pitches for feature-length stories. Please make sure your pitch fits into one of the following areas:
- Culture covers arts and entertainment with a focus on how it interacts with the real world outside of screens — through identity, social justice, and politics. The subjects we cover include music, TV, film, books, comedy, NFTs, memes, sports, video games, and fashion.
- Impact covers politics in all forms: social politics, activist politics, climate politics, health politics, identity politics. This section tells stories about immigration, health care, climate change, reproductive rights, criminal justice, racial justice, and LGBTQ+ rights.
- Life tells real human stories with candor and keen observation. It covers health and lifestyle, food, money, consumerism, travel, career, and wellness.
- Identity tells deeply reported stories at the intersection of race, gender, sexuality, and culture.
Features are typically between 1200 and 2500 words, with rates starting at $400 for short essays and 50 cents a word for reported features, depending on a writer’s experience and expertise.
