Witchking Flail dimensions
Added 2024-10-09 12:23:57 +0000 UTCSpeaking of the actual size of the flial, in this photo it is huge compared to a person - the spiked impact head will be 600 mm.
I plan to make it not so huge, but corresponding to human proportions - 370 mm.
But if you want, I can make two versions: huge and smaller.
For the chain, I am thinking of making a couple of options to make it convenient to print.
In one of them, half of the links will be cut into 2 parts. That is, each link can be conveniently printed in a lying position and then assembled from them the whole chain.
In the second option, I will try to lay it out somehow in a spiral so that it fits entirely (or in two parts) on a printer table measuring 200x200 mm.
I have not seen a wall plaque for this prop anywhere, and if I come up with something that I can do in the remaining time, I will do it.

This kind of shelf design reminds me of the sauron shelf plaque or the azog one where it has long prongs sticking out to hold it up. I have seen fan made designs where it is supported and hung up by the chains so the head and the grip of the flail would be on either side of it. I do think a large scale display one and a normal size display is a good option, as for chains having them be structurally sound when 3d printing is a bit rough as well as allowing them to be easily put together.

2024-10-09 12:50:24 +0000 UTCI'm a sucker for 'movie accuracy', so I would not say no to a 'huge' (movie sized) prop. There's a funny story about its size actually in the behind-the-scenes footage of the Complete Recordings. PJ kept asking for a bigger version, so Weta was like 'ok we'll really go over the top and make it ridiculously big so that even PJ thinks it's too much.' They showed him and he still went 'not bad, just a little bit bigger perhaps' :-D. In terms of mount/plaque... I doubt it's convenient to mount it on a plaque, if the thing sticks out nearly 40cm from the wall it's more of a 'shelf' that's needed than a plaque. Another idea I had is perhaps to make some sort of display 'tray' or holder for it, where you put the mace on it/in it and place it on a table (or in a corner on the floor if using the 'full sized' mace), as a decoration/center piece? Whatever you decide, any display for it doesn't have to be ready this month or when the mace is released, don't put pressure on yourself for it.
