I’m commissioning stories for our culture section, and specifically about film, TV, and social media.
We have this wonderful guide that I encourage you to read. It’s got info on rates, our audience, and the contacts for the rest of our masthead if your story isn’t necessarily for me.
TLDR on the money of it all: our rates typically start around $300 CAD for the sort of work I’ll be commissioning, and go up from there based on the specific project. Word counts can range from ~600 to longer, depending on the story.
I cover screens. Broadly speaking, that’s everything from TV to film to social media and sports. Does your story have something to do with watching a screen? It's probably a pitch for me!
For pitch emails to me, give a working headline for your story in the subject. In the body of your email, give a short summary of your story, its central “thesis,” any access/interviews you have, examples of past work, and a bit about you and why you’re the one to do this story.
If you’re a newer writer with limited bylines, definitely still pitch!
