All work is remote but candidates must live in Washtenaw County, Michigan.

Concentrate, a weekly online magazine covering Washtenaw County, seeks a freelance journalist to write news and feature stories. Concentrate covers the people, organizations, and businesses moving Washtenaw County forward through a solutions-oriented lens. Assignment topics include community development, entrepreneurship, arts and culture, education, equity, social justice, health, and technology. Ideal candidates will have previous digital journalism or community newspaper experience, or have relevant qualifications and work samples. Candidates should have a passion for finding interesting and diverse stories and be able to reliably meet deadlines. Women, people of color, and LGBTQ+ people are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates must live in Washtenaw County.

News story assignments will pay $40 for a 200-300 word story involving one original interview.
Feature story assignments will pay $200 for an 800-1,200 word story involving three or more original interviews.
