Taking this fleeting moment between national tragedies to share another call for pitches. I need 2-5 more longform stories (1500-4000 words) for the FALL issue. No themes, just tell me about the most exciting music, musicians, stories, topics, etc. in roots music today.
The FALL issue is due out September-November 22. What's happening then(ish)? Whose voices aren't being heard? What have you wanted write about that no one ever gave you the paid chance to explore?
Roots music is a BIG umbrella! Folk, bluegrass, (alt-) country, blues, gospel, singer-songwriters. Any "music of the people." Whose music, people? Yours! Wanna dig into the Black Legacy Project? A Cherokee language project that Horton Records is working on? Of course you do.
Send me a detailed pitch email fleshing out either of those ideas or your own with sample clips. Check the site for "journal excerpts" / "print excerpts." Deadlines are within a month or so. We're due to print late July.
