We're looking for an Austin-based freelance writer with news reporting experience to cover the education beat – mainly AISD, but also ACC, UT, and other local learning institutions. We have set rates for certain types of content but our rates for features are by and large 25 cents a word.
EDUCATION REPORTER
The Austin Chronicle’s News department is seeking an Austin-based freelance writer with news reporting experience to cover the education beat – mainly AISD, but also ACC, UT, and other local learning institutions. Candidates will be expected to regularly watch and report on AISD board meetings and to be comfortable producing a range of stories, from breaking news posts to long-form features.
Interested candidates should email the News department (newseditor@austinchronicle.com) with the subject “EDUCATION REPORTER” and the following: three published clips (print or digital media) demonstrating knowledge in your field, three story pitches, and a cover letter detailing relevant past experiences and why you're a good fit for the Chronicle.
Please note: This is not a staff position; writers are paid per article. However, we are looking to build long-term relationships with new writers.
