Pitches wanted (national parks, NPS properties, western US) | 10 cents per word

The new regional travel magazine American West is seeking pitches for its Fall 2022 issue, themed National Parks. We will be doing some longer features, but every National Park in the West will be included so there will be lots of opportunities available. If you're familiar with many of the parks, you can pitch something like "Best Parks to Hike In" or "Utah's Mighty Five." If you're a subject expert of one or two parks, feel free to pitch specific stories on those. Original research/reporting only. Please, no first-person essays. Pay is 10 cents per word.

While we will be focusing on National Parks (list below), we will also include some articles on NPS properties like National Monuments, Conservation Areas, etc., so you're welcome to pitch ideas for those as well.

Preference will be given to writers with strong photography skills. All features need to have accompanying photos. Stock/public domain photos will be used only occasionally.

Pitches for the National Parks issue should include:

• Multiple story ideas and what qualifies you to write about the subject (keep these short and sweet; no need to write the article just yet!)
• 2-3 links to published work, preferably on a related topic
• 2-3 photo samples

At this point, all of my revenue (and then some) goes into printing the magazine and paying my designer and contributors.
