Added 2022-08-22 20:05:19 +0000 UTCCOMPANY/PUBLICATION: SOURCED JOURNEYS
Deadline: 31 October 2022
SOURCED is an ingredient-led investigation into food and drink systems. We are looking for pitches that examine an ingredient to explore global food and drink culture. Each season of SOURCED looks at a specific ingredient and question; pitches that best relate to each season will be given priority. We want to work with a global network of writers and are open to work with non-English writers on translations. Crucially, your pitch must tell us why your topic is relevant to understanding global food and drink systems.
RICE: season runs mid-Sept 2022 - Dec 2022. Accepting pitches now, and no later than end of October.
Queer food pathways: Across each of the seasons we will be publishing pieces that looks specifically at queer food pathways, through the specific season’s ingredient. We are currently looking for a Rice season pitch. These pieces still need to fit the overall Sourced themes of systems, sourcing and ingredients, with this added lens and interrogation into queer food (and drink!) pathways. We would like these pieces to be deep-dives, and are really interested in working closely with the writers to build the piece.
These pieces have a fee of £200. We are accepting pitches related to RICE for these now.
Please note that we are also keen to have queer food/drink stories throughout the seasons! This does not mean there is only one space for these stories to appear, we are just making sure that there is a specific space for them.

TO HELP YOU CRAFT YOUR PITCH:
- Learn more about the publication: SOURCED is a public research project aimed at developing lines of inquiry into our relationships with food and drink. It was created to see how we can broaden the way the culinary world is discussed and move it out from a narrative that prioritises a privileged Western/Global North experience. More information here.
- Read through a selection of recent Seasons articles/stories on its website.
- Check out our collection of pitch excerpts on this page and find more sample pitches at The Open Notebook Database and at SuccessfulPitches.com.
- Do not forget to end your pitch with (1) a short introduction about yourself; (2) a few lines highlighting your writing experience, relevant credentials and publication credits; and (3) links to your strongest work or portfolio, and online profile.
