News Reporters / Writers wanted (health) | $300-$400 per article

Dotdash Meredith is seeking health news freelance writers to help increase the cadence of Health.com’s news program. As a writer, you will be responsible for covering trending news stories, including health policy news, guideline/recommendation changes, studies, and trending news items. Most importantly, your coverage will not just explain what’s happening, but how it affects the lives of readers. A strong understanding of the health space, particularly public health and policy, is preferred.

Rates range from $300-$400 based on word count and topic.

ABOUT YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS

In this role, you will:

• Write well-sourced, thorough, and informative articles with clear takeaways for readers
• Bring on and continue to develop a roster of subject matter experts to add original reporting to each story. These experts will provide context and perspective to your coverage
• Have a strong editorial sense, particularly around breaking and trending news, and the ability to translate complex medical studies accurately to the average reader.
• Be available to take on assignments with same-day or two- to three-day turnaround times

ABOUT YOU

You should have:

• A portfolio with clips from major health news websites, including but not limited to: Healthline, Verywell Health, Medical News Today, WebMD, etc.
• A knack for clearly and succinctly translating medical jargon and academic speak to a lay audience
• Ability to track down sources for timely comment
• Desire and ability to work on tight deadlines
