Pitches wanted (sexual health, sex positivity) | $250-$300 per article

[This opportunity was posted 30+ days ago and has expired.]

We are starting a new recurrent series to discuss the quality of mental and physical health representation shown — or not shown — within recent (between 2020 and today) popular television and movies, highlighting how marginalized communities are first in-line to be affected. Because this series will be monthly, we’d love to hear from someone interested in taking on both of these topics, with the potential of covering others connected to media, health, and representation in the near future. Open to US writers; Note: Due to certain state laws, if you haven’t previously freelanced with us, we aren’t able to onboard new folks from CA, IN, MA, NJ, or WV. In your pitch, please include the shows/movies you'd like to discuss and the themes and/or conditions you'd be discussing.

SEXUAL HEALTH AND SEX POSITIVITY, 1000-1500 WORDS

Because September is Sexual Health Awareness Month, we’re aiming to highlight trending movies and TV shows that discuss sex and sexual health. Let’s talk about where they resonated or where they went wrong: Did they do an adequate job of allowing characters to be sexual beings without it being taboo? Were they open conversations about sexual health shown as commonplace? How did they handle plot lines with STIs or pregnancy (if they showed them at all) — were they judgmental? Inclusive? Medically inaccurate? We want to openly discuss how marginalized communities might be affected by the chosen portrayals: Are Queer, BIPOC, or disabled communities uplifted? Are they shown at all? Ideally, we’d like to discuss a max of two media examples per piece, but are open to your ideas!

Email me at with your pitch and three links to samples of editorial work. I'd love to see work that shows an ability to look critically at media and/or weave social issues into conversations about health. Please include "Pitch: Media Series" in your subject line. Accepting pitches until September 17, midnight EST.
