Pitches wanted (travel) (WORLDWIDE) | 50 cents per word

COMPANY/PUBLICATION: TRUVERE

Erica Buehler is looking for pitches for Truvere:

I am now accepting pitches for recently launched travel brand Truvere! Below are our freelance contributor guidelines. I am looking forward to hearing your unique stories and connecting with you. Rates: $.50 per word

Open to international writers? Absolutely!

TRUVERE

Truvere is a modern travel publication designed to help readers navigate the world on a deeper level. Through thorough, well-researched recommendations, local stories, and beautiful visuals, Truvere inspires readers to travel often and more thoughtfully.

While our new site isn't launching until January 2023, we're currently looking for freelance writers to contribute new guides, features, essays, and interviews that will be published as part of our initial launch. Through these pieces of content, we want to empower our readers to embrace the world at large while being hyper-aware of the realities affecting today's travelers—including but not limited to the recent evolution of travel due to COVID, over-tourism, and the like. We're also very interested in bringing on a diverse mix of contributors, and strongly encourage women, people of all abilities, BIPOC, and/or LGBTQIA+ or nonbinary individuals to pitch us.

For any piece that you're interested in writing, it should be well-researched, honest, and thorough—you're the expert, show us (and the reader) how and why. Also, please only pitch ideas for places you've personally visited, know well, and can enthusiastically vouch for in terms of recommendations. We understand that travel has been a difficult process over the past few years, however, Truvere is NOT interested in any pieces written remotely without recent on-the-ground experience to back them up.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

In-depth guides spotlighting far-off and less-covered destinations (both domestic and international), including the restaurants / food / culture they're known for, specific regions within those areas, and the people who call such places home; essays / features covering interesting first-person travel experiences; and interviews with captivating individuals that help tell the story of a particular place. However, if you have other ideas—maybe a short story about living amongst penguins on South Georgia Island, or a satirical recounting of the 173 thoughts you once had while waiting on a delayed flight from Buffalo to Cincinnati—we'd love to hear those too.

And since you're wondering, yes—we're also looking for new, unique, or edgier angles on more popular travel destinations. Please note that we will be judicious about assigning such and may take longer to consider, but feel free to pitch them. For instance, if you're an expert on Roman pinsas and want to create an interactive walking tour detailing the dish's history across Rome, let us know. Also please bring us a slice, we're hungry. Or maybe you're a seventh-generation New Orleanian and have always wanted to write about your family's historical connection to Mardi Gras. Very cool, can we reserve a spot on your float next year too?

WHAT WE'RE NOT LOOKING FOR:

Anything boring, bland, or overly broad; stories solely based on remote research or crowdsourced information; or ideas that could be labeled as "generic" — look at your pitch before you send it and think, "Does this already exist elsewhere online? Now can I make it different?" We want every piece of content on Truvere to be as unique, personal, and in-depth as the person who writes it.

THE DETAILS:

HOW TO PITCH TRUVERE:

Please send all story ideas to pitches@truvere.com. Pitches should briefly explain the topic, angle, and scope of your piece, plus details on the timing of submission. Additionally, please include why you think we should cover the topic and why you are the right writer for the job.

Also, by pitching a story about a destination, restaurant, hotel, or attraction, we expect that you've already visited/experienced it. Please do NOT pitch stories that will require you to take a trip in order to conduct that required research as we are not interested in funding such pieces.

If you have any questions regarding the pitch process, you can email Max Bonem, Managing Editor at Truvere, at max4truvere.com. However, since we want to make sure all pitches are given our full attention, please be patient and do not pitch him directly (his inbox is already scary enough as is). Thank you.
