Newspaper Reporters wanted (San Diego County) | ~10 cents per word

Seacoast Media Lab LLC seeks reporters to write stories for Scripps Ranch News and other community newspapers / publications.

Have your articles published in print and online in a vivid, well-respected newspaper read by a discerning audience. Enjoy the gratification of knowing your work is admired by a highly-educated crowd whose members will follow your writing.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must have real journalism training.
• Journalism degree preferred.
• Print newspaper or magazine experience preferred.
• (NOT looking for bloggers, copywriters, marketers, social media posters, creative writers, novelists or poets.)
• Must be well-versed in Associated Press style.
• Must have excellent English writing skills.
• Must be responsible, dependable and meet deadlines.
• Must have excellent communication skills.
• Must take direction and follow through on details for each story.
• Must represent the company in a proper manner when dealing with the public.
• Must keep editor updated on story progress.
• Must be able to provide three valid references upon request.
• Must have reliable automobile for transportation.
• Must provide proof of valid, up-to-date auto insurance and driver’s license.
• Must currently reside in San Diego County.

ABOUT THE WORK

• Pitch and accept story ideas for print publication.
• Contact and interview sources for your stories.
• Average word count: 400 to 450 words minimum per story.
• Average deadline time for stories is about 1.5 to two weeks.
