Hi, I’m Alex, and I run Footprint Hero, a blog about DIY solar power that reaches over 150,000 readers every month. I’m on a journey to learn how to solar power anything, and Footprint Hero is where I’m sharing what I learn.

ABOUT THE ROLE

I’m looking for a freelance writer to:

• Write SEO-focused blog articles about the basics of solar power, such as topics like “what’s the best angle for solar panels to face?” and “what are the most common types of solar batteries?”
• Convert our video tutorials to blog articles, such as in this article (https://footprinthero.com/diy-solar-car-battery-charger) where I used the information in the video to write a structured, SEO-friendly blog post

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Conduct internet research
• Write and format articles in WordPress
• Explain technical concepts in an easy-to-understand manner
• Convert our video tutorials to write SEO-friendly blog posts
• Take good photos and screenshots to complement your articles (smartphone photos work just fine)
• Collaborate with an editor on assignments

PAY

• $0.10 per word
• Paid via direct deposit

WORKLOAD AND CONTRACT

• Length3-4 articles per month (roughly 1 per week) of 1000-2000 words
• 3-6 months expected contract length, with a chance to extend

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, engineering, environmental science, or a related field
• 1+ years technical writing experience in a related subject (e.g. solar power, renewable energy, climate change) OR 1+ years professional experience in a related field (e.g. electrical engineer, electrician, solar installer)
• 1+ years freelance writing experience
• Fluent in English
• WordPress and SEO experience preferred
