Anjulie Rao, Creator of Weathered, is looking for pitches:
Call for pitches, WEATHERED, Season 2: Seeking stories about cities, landscapes, and the built environment in the context of the wintertime. I’m particularly looking for topics surrounding maintenance/care, open/public space, insulation, climate change, togetherness/isolation, unusual winter infrastructure, etc. Your pitch should have a strong perspective and engage critically with your topic; I accept lyric/braided essays, too. Stories can be as long as 1,800 words, but all stories are paid a flat rate of $200. Email me.

TO HELP YOU CRAFT YOUR PITCH:
- Learn more about the publication: Weathered is a seasonal newsletter about the built environment during the winter. It features essays and reported stories related to the built environment, dealing with comfort, maintenance, darkness, or the unraveling of those ideas through the lens of experiencing a city in the wintertime. More information here.
- Read through a selection of recent stories/articles on its website.
- Review the submission guidelines here. Note that these are the publication's general guidelines to help you refine your pitch. You must still follow the editor's specific instructions above.
- Check out our collection of pitch excerpts on this page and find more sample pitches at The Open Notebook Database and at SuccessfulPitches.com.
- Do not forget to end your pitch with (1) a short introduction about yourself; (2) a few lines highlighting your writing experience, relevant credentials and publication credits; and (3) links to your strongest work or portfolio, and online profile.
