Writers wanted (coding, web development) (worldwide) | $330 to $430 per article

COMPANY/PUBLICATION: SCRIMBA

Scrimba’s mission is to help motivated students learn to code and get a well paid tech job.

Instead of committing thousands of dollars to a bootcamp, we offer interactive courses and community support for a fraction of the cost. Now you can take your learning at your own pace and learn to code for the last time.

Students love us because we’re invested in making them successful.

No matter how good our courses are, our students won’t be successful if they get stuck and give up.

That’s why on the content team, we produce an inspirational podcast, weekly YouTube videos, and write about how to learn web development on our blog (this is where you come in!)

HOW MUCH DO WE PAY?

We pay $330-$430 per article, depending on the scope of the post.

Since we hope you can eventually write one post a week, that is $1720 a month.

WHAT YOU WILL WRITE ABOUT

To give you an idea about what to expect, here are some posts we published in the last few weeks:

On the Scrimba blog, we write about two things:

If you have experience writing about either (or both), you would be a great fit for this role.

Maybe you haven’t written about these topics before but you have relevant knowledge.

That could work great if you have other writing experience! Many of us on the content team are developers, passionate about teaching the things we wish we knew.

OUR PROCESS

If you’ve read this far, you might be wondering about our process and if Scrimba is a good fit for you.

On the content team, you’ll work with Alex Booker. He’s the host of the Scrimba Podcast and Content Lead at Scrimba.

OUTLINE

Every topic starts with keyword research (some SEO knowhow is preferred for this role) and an outline.

We like to collab on the outline to reduce iterations later. Once we agree on a topic, it will be up to you to do the keyword research and suggest an outline.

We’ll either approve it right away or suggest how the outline could be tweaked to make the post as helpful to our readers as possible.

WORK ON THE POST

The fun part (we hope!) Using our style guide, write the post in a week or so.

REVIEW

Since we jammed on the outline, there shouldn’t be any surprised in the review.

In this step, you’ll get a second pair of eyes on your writing and help with the technical parts (if you need it.)

WE’LL HELP WITH THE GRAPHICS

Once the draft is approved, our designer, Roku, will create you a header image.

Even more importantly, he can take your crude sketches or images you references (for example, a digram) and recreate it in the Scrimba style.

It’s important you lean on this resource to make the posts as rich as they can possibly be.
Publish and promote the post

Over time, you will be expected to own the post from ideation to publication.

That means logging into our blog to publish the post! We also need your help cross-posting the content to dev.to and hashnode.com, where we have a following.

ON TO THE NEXT ONE

Like our boy Jay Z said.

We always start with a test post or two and strive to work together long-term.

Ideally, we can get into a nice rhythm where you publish a weekly post and get paid well.

REQUIREMENTS

You:

Strong examples of excellent technical or EduTech written content (even better if they’ve ranked on the first page of Google!)

A fair knowledge of SEO and how to utilise tools like Ahrefs to produce outlines that match popular search queries.
