Added 2023-01-02 16:02:00 +0000 UTCCOMPANY/PUBLICATION: INDY WEEK
Sarah Edwards, Arts and Culture Editor at Indy Week, is looking for pitches:
The Indy Week covers the Triangle and a bit beyond—there is such rich material and so many people with worthy projects to cover, but I'm just one writer. I am really hoping to build out our stable of writers this year. Below, some of my favorite freelancer stories from 2022.
- The recent NYT story on the teenage "Luddite club" reminded me of Brian Gray Howe's profile of Trash Tape Records, and the Gen Z'ers behind it: https://indyweek.com/music/features/trash-tape-records-carrboro/
- This story on the collaboration between Larry Bellorín and Joe Troop by Nick McGregor, who pressed for us to invest in a dual Spanish translation of the story (which INDY intern Caryl Espinoza Jaen did a fantastic job with!): https://indyweek.com/music/features/building-musical-bridges-larry-joe-cover/
- I loved this story by Brian Rozenweig (another a-team INDY intern) on the Carolina Crawfish and other local sports teams breaking the mold: https://indyweek.com/culture/sports/queer-sports-teams-in-the-triangle/
- This feature-slash-guide by literary guru Shelbi Polk to some of the Triangle's readings and literary communities: https://indyweek.com/culture/page/bookstore-and-diy-readings-triangle/
I would especially love to work with more women and writers of color and freelancers who have ties to Chapel Hill and Raleigh. thanks for reading along.
