Attention all freelance writers, especially folks who were affected by the recent media layoffs and are looking for a reliable (and incredibly fun) daily gig: I’m prioritizing a search for at least three contracted writers to join my news team within Hearst’s Enthusiast Group, specifically the brands below. RUNNER’S WORLD: I’m looking for a writer—and, just as importantly, an avid runner—who has a deep knowledge of and passion for what’s happening in the sport of running on a daily basis. This person should be comfortable reporting on elite athletes, sharing viral moments from races, tackling industry trends, uncovering uplifting accomplishments from amateur runners at the local level, and more. The ideal candidate should have clips from national publications in the health, fitness, sports, or outdoors spaces, and the availability to write at least one news story every weekday ($200/story).

BICYCLING: See above, only with cycling! This writer-slash-cyclist intimately knows all corners of the sport and has a keen sense of where to find irresistible stories about bikes and the people who ride them either professionally or casually, but always enthusiastically. I’m also looking for someone who has written about cycling for relevant national publications, and who has the bandwidth for one news story per day at $200/story.

POPULAR MECHANICS: Lastly, I’m specifically looking for someone to contribute to PopMech’s daily military, aviation, and defense coverage—everything from analyzing leaks of the Air Force’s next-generation fighter jet, to highlighting the wild tech behind Russia’s new submarine, to digging into mysterious UAP sightings. The candidate should be intimately familiar with the past, present, and future of the fields they cover, and have clips from relevant national publications. One story a day at $200/story.
