Mike Dang, Personal Finance Editor at The New York Times, is looking for pitches:
Freelancers sometimes ask me what kinds of stories I'm looking for. I wrote one of them: https://www.nytimes.com/2023/01/21/business/retirement-immigrant-families.html
I'm always looking for stories about money that reveals to readers something about who we are and the different ways we live.
This was a deeply personal work of reporting for me that resonated with a lot of people. Some of the best personal finance stories put emphasis on the "personal," which makes them more compelling.
In any case, if you have these kinds of stories in mind, feel free to pitch me! My section rate is $1 a word. And my email is mike.dang@nytimes.com
