ARTS AND CULTURE CONTRIBUTORS — ADVENTURE NEWSLETTER
Are you looking for a writing opportunity AND a chance to show your love of Kansas City?
KCUR 89.3 is searching for new writers to contribute to our popular Adventure! email newsletter.
Each week, Adventure! brings readers new ways to explore the Kansas City region. We’re looking for witty, curious, fun-loving people with deep knowledge of the area, who can help others discover the city’s hidden gems and reconnect with its iconic places. We welcome specialists whose interests are idiosyncratic and unique, as well as generalists who can write authoritatively on a range of topics.
This is a really great opportunity for freelance writers (or aspiring freelance writers) to add KCUR to their portfolios, while showing off your knowledge and appreciation of your city.
We especially welcome submissions from writers of color and from underrepresented communities. If you’ve never listened to KCUR or public radio before, we definitely hope you apply.
Collaborating with KCUR’s newsletter team, you’ll pitch ideas, participate in brainstorming and planning sessions, and research and write newsletters on a mutually agreeable timeline.
We’re looking for people with strong writing skills (journalism experience is great, but not necessary!) who are comfortable with digital platforms, can take direction, and are able to work collaboratively. Some photography skills are also helpful.
You must also share KCUR’s commitment to serving all communities in the region and to fostering a positive and welcoming work environment.
Payment is $150-200 per piece, depending on the specific workload.
To apply, send an email with the subject line ADVENTURE to freelance@kcur.org. Please attach a resume and three samples of writing (published or not) that show off what you can do.
FREELANCING WITH KCUR
KCUR 89.3, Kansas City’s NPR affiliate, welcomes contributions from freelance journalists, and regularly contracts with freelance audio producers.
We enjoy working with creative, self-directed and organized individuals who have a strong understanding of the kind of stories that resonate with Kansas City audiences, who can pay the kind of attention to detail that ensures the highest quality content, and who can consistently meet deadlines.
Our freelance rates vary depending on the complexity of the project and the experience level of the freelancer. We’ll work out mutually agreeable details depending on the scope of the work.
If you’re an audio personality, producer, writer or editor with a great idea — we want to hear from you. Please send us an email describing your idea, along with a resume and portfolio with samples of your work.
Send an email to freelance@kcur.org with “Freelance opportunities” in the subject line.
