We are looking for an experienced writer and editor to create an ambassador handbook for the GOSH Community! The handbook will serve as a guide for individuals who want to become GOSH Community ambassadors and support our mission of making open science hardware ubiquitous.
The GOSH community will host a series of workshops to develop an ambassador handbook that can be used to train and help better communicate OScH to different audiences. The handbook would include resources (e.g PowerPoint presentations, videos, etc.) that ambassadors can share with respective audiences (e.g maker spaces, academic labs, etc.)
This role is to write the handbook with the support of the GOSH Community Coordinator. The primary deliverable is the creation of an ambassador handbook that can be dispersed throughout a wide range of networks engaged with the GOSH Community. The major role of the writer is consolidating previous documentation and editing input from workshop attendees.

JOB OVERVIEW
The Gathering for Open Science Hardware (GOSH) community supports open hardware for scientific research and education by convening meetings such as global and regional GOSH events and providing online forums that democratize research, influence policy and take action to make open science hardware (OScH) ubiquitous by 2025, as laid out in the GOSH Roadmap.
As part of achieving the GOSH Roadmap recommendations intended to scale the impact of open science hardware globally, the GOSH community will host a series of workshops to develop an ambassador handbook that can be used to train and help better communicate OScH to different audiences. The handbook would include resources (e.g PowerPoint presentations, videos, etc.) that ambassadors can share with respective audiences (e.g maker spaces, academic labs, etc.)
This role is to write the handbook with the support of the GOSH Community Coordinator. The primary deliverable is the creation of an ambassador handbook that can be dispersed throughout a wide range of networks engaged with the GOSH Community. The major role of the writer is consolidating previous documentation and input from workshop attendees, requiring a keen eye for compiling clear and accessible guidance for ambassadors. They will also act as editor for inputs from the workshop sessions.
These workshops are convened by GOSH community members and funded by the Alfred P Sloan Foundation. The Open Science Hardware Foundation, a US-based nonprofit, will manage the recruitment of this role.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Attend two ambassador handbook workshops to document them with an eye towards content curation.
- For each workshop:
- Compile, consolidate, and edit contributions from workshop attendees in order to build out the handbook
- Finalise, copy edit, and package the ambassador handbook by 15 May, ready for design and layout.
- Be available for any further review or revisions needed throughout the design process.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience: involvement in the OScH community is desirable as is a track record in writing similar documents.
- Specific skills: writing, teamwork, editorial, content curation, coordination
- Personal characteristics: team player, organized, strong communication skills, strong alignment with the values of the GOSH Manifesto.
- Certifications: None necessary
