ROLE SUMMARY:

Accion Opportunity Fund seeks an experienced copywriter (independent contractor) to promote AOF’s responsible loans and free business advising services to small business owners. AOF will engage the copywriter through an initial six-month, 25-35 hours/week contract.

The copywriter will be an extension of Accion Opportunity Fund’s Marketing and Communications team, which oversees and executes all aspects of brand and marketing strategy and execution, including communications, brand, customer acquisition, growth, and more. The primary goals of the marketing team are to maximize the use of the organization’s tools and resources, such as funding opportunities, free business coaching, and more, to promote equitable small business growth and, ultimately, scale a more inclusive financial system, especially for the most underserved.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Translate creative briefs, messaging decks, and requests for writing support into crisp, compelling copy for a variety of media, including lifecycle marketing emails, partner emails, web copy, digital ads, and print collateral
• Review and revise existing marketing collateral
• Maintain a clear and consistent brand voice, adhering to Accion Opportunity Fund’s style guide and lending-related legal standards (with direction from our Compliance team)

MUST HAVES:

Qualifications

• To be successful in this role, this person should have a minimum of the following: 3-5 years experience with a consumer- or small business-facing brand (agency experience preferred), especially one focused on sole proprietors or within the financial services space
• Experience messaging to AOF’s target audience (90% people of color, women, and low-to-moderate income entrepreneurs)
• B2B and DTC experience preferred
• An accessible, jargon-free writing style, with strong attention to grammar and spelling
• Knowledgeable of best copywriting practices in digital marketing
• Excellent proofreading skills
• Collaborative and open to feedback

NICE TO HAVES:

Additional factors for success include:

• Proficiency in Spanish
• Understanding of SEO
