Deadline: 18 March 2023
Katie Dancey-Downs, Assistant Editor at Index on Censorship, is looking for pitches:
Pitch alert We’re commissioning for the next issue of Index on Censorship and you lovely lot filled my inbox with such brilliant ideas last time, that I want to hear from you again.
I’d like to hear from journalists and experts across the world, writing from the ground. We take reported and comment pieces, all linked with free expression. Have a look at our website and magazine to get a sense of us: https://www.indexoncensorship.org/
Pitch me a story, not a theme, and be specific. Make me care about it. Who will you speak to? What’s new? Please share your clips and tell me about yourself.
We pay our writers. I can’t share rates publicly, but I’m happy to chat about them via email. Send your pitches to katiedd [at] indexoncensorship [dot] org. I’d ideally like pitches by 18th March please.
I love being surprised by new ideas. Here are a few recent examples from the magazine that I’ve particularly enjoyed reading:

- Fifty years of Pride and prejudice: https://www.indexoncensorship.org/2022/06/fifty-years-of-pride-and-prejudice/
- Pavel Litvinov—A dissident hero: https://www.indexoncensorship.org/2023/01/litvinov/
CONFIDENTIAL NOTE: Reports indicate that this opportunity will pay roughly £240 for 1200 words. It is recommended that you discuss the rate(s) with the editor upon the acceptance of your pitch.
