We're always looking for interesting pitches from freelance reporters who cover business topics. Here's what you need to know:
BECOME A FREELANCER WITH THE REYNOLDS CENTER
The Reynolds Center for Business Journalism is looking for talented freelance journalists to cover business topics for businessjournalism.org. The Center has trained more than 30,000 journalists and educators since it was established in 2003 with the goal of improving the quality of media coverage of business and the economy.
Freelancers would pitch and develop feature articles that are tied to the latest happenings in the news cycle and include tips, career advice, and/or other resources for fellow business writers to improve their reporting.
Completed articles should be around 500 words and include at least one illustration/photo.
The Reynolds Center is currently offering US$500 per completed piece.
We are open to pitches from writers. Some of the topics we are specifically looking for are:
- Story angles for covering business topics
- Tips and story ideas on localizing stories to local communities
- Career advice for students and new journalists
- Freelancing advice
- Financial literacy for readers
For examples of the type of work we have used in the past, please look around our website.
If you are interested, please fill out the form below with a specific pitch.
What a story pitch should contain:
- More than one line or sentence. We need enough information from the pitch to decide whether it’s a good fit for our website and whether the story is feasible.
- No more than five paragraphs, including a proposed lede and a proposed nut graf. In other words, tell us why the story matters and why it would be helpful for our audience of journalists and journalism students.
- Some general details on how you plan on doing the reporting.
