Pitches wanted (literature, profiles, New York) | $100 per article
Added 2023-04-24 14:38:50 +0000 UTCCOMPANY/PUBLICATION: LITERARY MANHATTAN
We’re using the platform we’ve built to support global writers whose lives have been impacted by New York and the writers who have called the state home. We pay writers $100 to write a 700-word article or profile about a location of literary significance in New York, an author who lived here, a book, poem, or other form of literature set here, or an event taking place here or that happened here.
So, what is Literary New York? Founded in 2009, our mission is to transform words on the page into experiences in the street. We now consist of an interactive map of 432 locations connecting users to the lives and writing of 80 authors, free tours and lesson plans, book reviews, and original fiction. At our core is the fundamental belief that literature is meant to be lived, not just read.
- We believe reading literature on location where it is set reminds us of the timeless meaning of the words by imbuing their meaning with the colors, smells and sounds we experience in our daily lives.
- We believe that by focusing on deeper truths that unite us, and bringing the stories that tell these truths with us to work, home and play, we might more easily find common ground with those around us, across political parties, nations, genders, races and even languages.
- We believe New York is a good place to start because it’s where we call home, but we also believe we live on a Literary Planet connected by invisible stories, and that if you look hard enough, every location has literary significance—or will someday.
