Pitches wanted (SF experiences, profiles, culture) | $250+ per article

Dan Gentile, Culture Editor at SFGate, is looking for pitches:
Hey freelancers: I'm assigning SFGATE culture features for April. These should represent the spirit of San Francisco—unique essays on local experiences, profiles of unsung characters/scenes, civic curiosities. $250+. Email me.
Remember—one million people visit SFGATE every day. Niche stories are great, but we need a headline that makes an average San Franciscan go — "wow, that's something I want to understand better about my city!"
SOME EXAMPLES:
- Really neat forgotten history of one of SF's most iconic music venues: https://www.sfgate.com/sf-culture/article/san-francisco-fillmore-auditorium-history-17830364.php
- A cultural phenomenon that everyone's heard of but no one's ever written about: cruising. We love dating stories, and it's hard to find unique ones (I'm not looking for how-I-met-my-partner essays), but when they work they're great: https://www.sfgate.com/sf-culture/article/buena-vista-park-cruising-renaissance-17691917.php
- Love this profile of an unsung film director: https://www.sfgate.com/streaming/article/sf-filmmaker-esther-eng-documentary-17564868.php
- We dig Broke-Ass Stuart's profiles so much we made him our official dive bar columnist: https://www.sfgate.com/local/article/sf-madrone-art-bar-history-17352324.php
- There's a ton of tech culture stories hiding out there too. This one was one of my faves: https://www.sfgate.com/tech/article/2021-04-elon-musk-twitter-covid-19-meme-tesla-ceo-16118139.php
