Pitches wanted (climate) | 50 cents to $1 per word
Added 2023-05-17 16:38:22 +0000 UTCCOMPANY/PUBLICATION: HIGH COUNTRY NEWS
Deadline: 5 June 2023
Paige Blankenbuehler, Senior Editor at High Country News, is looking for pitches:
High Country News is looking for story pitches for our special issue on climate. The issue will highlight stories of agency and collective action in the fight to decarbonize the West and the efforts to adapt to a changing climate in equitable ways.
Our aim is for the stories in the issue to explore new frameworks for thinking about climate futures. We want to empower readers with the information and inspiration they need to work toward a world that’s not just livable, but more open and just than the world of today.
Rates depend on story length/complexity, but will generally be a project fee based on $1/word for reportage and $0.50/word for reflection. The special issue will likely publish in late 2023 or early 2024, but we’d like to start making assignments now.
My amazing colleague, Emily Benson, is overseeing our lineup, but I may edit some of the stories in the package, so I'm happy to answer questions, help ya develop half-baked ideas that you think could work, or just provide more insight into what we're looking for.
Send pitches to me at paigeb@hcn.org or emilyb@hcn.org on or before June 5. Include “query” in the subject line.
