Pitches wanted (fantasy RPG) | 10 cents per word
Added 2023-06-02 15:25:10 +0000 UTCCOMPANY/PUBLICATION: SIDEQUEST
Deadline: 9 June 2023
Anto Cerrato, Editor at Sidequest, is looking for pitches:
It's been a while since our last pitch call! Between changes in the industry with the OGL drama, me handling Kickstarter fulfilment concerns, and general life stuff, I've not had the chance to sit down and put together a pitch email, so I'm getting this out a little earlier than normal!
There are some big changes come to SIDEQUEST with issue 25 as we are starting to publish content compatible with Pathfinder Second Edition in addition to D&D 5e and generic fantasy content. As such, you'll need to specify what system you are pitch for in your pitch emails, following the subject line structure listed at the end of this email.
When pitching material, you do not need to be able to write mechanical content for both 5e and PF2; so long as you have mechanics for one of the systems, we can adapt them to create a version for the other system. In the coming months, I will produce new submission guidelines to formalize this process.
Before pitching, please familiarize yourself with the rules for submission over on patreon, and check out the article index to make sure what you are pitching hasn't already been published.
The pitch deadline is Friday, June 9th 2023. After this time I will review all pitches and decide which ones will progress to the outline stage.
DO NOT PITCH ME
- Full Classes (with the exception of those asked for below)
- Repeated material: Please do not submit work you have published elsewhere on the internet, and look over the article index to make sure you're not pitching thematically similar things to previous articles.
PLEASE PITCH ME (ORDERED FROM MOST DESIRABLE TO LEAST)
Monsters 1000-1250 words in total. These can be 5e or PF2 monsters, we will convert the mechanics between system. I am particularly looking for the following
- Celestials: Particularly in the CR region of 6-9 and with a focus on the more "biblically accurate" strange and terrifying angels.
- Elementals: Particularly CR 12-17 elementals.
- Fey: Particularly CR 11+ fey, leaning more towards the dark macbre brothers Grimm style fey rather than whimsical.
- Oozes: Particularly CR 6+ Oozes of all kinds.
- Plants: Particularly CR 6+ Plants of all kinds.
- Weird S***: Give me your weird, wonderful, and horrific monsters!
Fantastic Locations: Up to 1,500 words talking about a fantastic location that can be placed into any campaign setting. A evocative name is critical here. No one wants to go to Jim's Tower when they see it on a map. But they will be desperate to go to the Tower of Shattered Time. If your pitch doesn't have an evocative name that immediately grips me, it's unlikely to move to the outline stage. These should be the kind of locations players could get excited by when seeing them on a map. These articles are high-level macro descriptions of locations, not room-by-room encounter based locations or adventures, though they can include one or more plot hooks tied to the location. See the attached example for the kind of thing I'm looking for.
Subclasses (5e) and Archetypes (PF2): A total of 1250-1500 words, please see the article index to make sure your concept doesn't overlap with already published options.
Magic Items: These should be pitched in batches of 5-10 and should be the kinds of items players would be excited to find.
Random Stuff: If you have a cool idea that isn't on the list, feel free to pitch it and see if it catches my eye.
HOW TO PITCH
Please email your pitches in a separate email with the subject line "SIDEQUEST Pitch, [Pitch Name], [System], [Your Name]". If I like your pitch I will ask you for an outline and we will proceed from there.
If you have any questions, please let me know.
I can't wait to see your pitches.
