Erin Quinlan, Features Director at Cosmopolitan, is looking for pitches:

Themed pitch call! For Cosmo’s year-end issue, the features department is seeking proposals related in some way to the subject of REBELLION. Target word count: 3000. Rate: $2/word. Pitch deadline: 6/14. Clarifying pointers below.

A strong Cosmo feature is timely, directly relevant to young women in the U.S., and additive. My favorite pitches are the functional antithesis of SEO content: incredible, one-of-a-kind stories that mass audiences aren’t googling…yet.

As always, I am most in need of stylish reported narratives—those riveting true tales in which the central players interact to drive a “plot” forward. (Quick test for “Is this a narrative?”: The working headline describes A Compelling Thing That Actually Happened.)

That’s not to say I’m averse to other formats. Photo essays, trend pieces that are truly first on the scene, provocative feature profiles centered on present-day stakes…Very much down to discuss.

Please note, however, that I am not commissioning first-person essays, entertainment commentary, fiction, historical/archival pieces, or advice-driven articles at this time.
