SCIENCE WRITER
We are looking to engage a science writer on a paid consultancy basis to attend two neuroscience workshops and produce reports that capture key discussion points, participants’ views and emerging topics. The events will take place at the Wellcome Trust building in 215 Euston Rd London, UK, on the 20th-21st of September and the 19th of October 2023.
Wellcome is a politically and financially independent global charitable foundation, funded by a £29.1 billion investment portfolio. We support discovery research into life, health and wellbeing, and we’re taking on three worldwide health challenges: mental health, climate & health and infectious diseases.
We seek to appoint a science writer to attend and produce reports from two workshops organised by Wellcome. Both workshops will broadly address how neuroscience can help advance mental health research, particularly in anxiety, depression and psychosis. The report should be of publishable quality and capture participants’ views of the current state of the field as well as tangible outcomes and recommendations to the Wellcome Trust, as relates to Wellcome’s Mental Health Strategy.
MAIN ACTIVITIES TO UNDERTAKE WOULD INCLUDE:
- Attend the Brain Connectivity Workshop, 20th-21st of September. This event will have 40 in-person attendees and feature short (15 minutes) talks followed by extensive (30 minutes) audience discussions. The last session of each day is a panel discussion.
- Attend the Neuroscience and Clinical practice in Mental Health workshop, 19th of October. This event will have approximately 120 in-person attendees and feature talks, lightning talks and roundtable discussions.
- Write a report for each of these workshops, capturing discussion points, emerging topics and tangible recommendations going forwards.
Please send a brief cover letter and CV to Winnie Wefelmeyer w.wefelmeyer@wellcome.org (Senior Research Manager in the Mental Health Evidence team) by midnight (GMT) on the 14th of July 2023. Shortlisting and interviews will be in July, run by the Mental Health Evidence team at Wellcome.
