Pitches wanted (free expression) (worldwide) | ~30 cents per word
Added 2023-06-28 14:46:10 +0000 UTCCOMPANY/PUBLICATION: INDEX ON CENSORSHIP
Deadline: 11 July 2023
Katie Dancey-Downs, Assistant Editor at Index on Censorship, is looking for pitches:
Pitch please! It’s the start of another Index on Censorship magazine cycle, so journos from across the world, get your ideas in my inbox. Here’s what I’m looking for:
I’d like ideas for reported and comment pieces, linked with freedom of expression. I love hearing from journalists on the ground, or very closely connected with the places they’re writing about.
TOP TIPS:
- Pitch me a story, not a theme, and be specific (I get a lot of pitches about general media freedoms). - Make me care about it.
- Who will you speak to? What’s new?
- Please take a look at our website or previous issues before you pitch.
Let me know a little about you, and send some links to your best work. We pay writers, and I’m happy to chat about rates via email before you pitch. If you need a more secure method of communication, feel free to ask.
Please send pitches to: katiedd@indexoncensorship.org I’d love to see your ideas by 11th July. You can still pitch after that, but earlier is better. I’ll reply to everyone, but it might take a few weeks. Happy pitching!
CONFIDENTIAL NOTE: Reports indicate that this opportunity will pay £240 for 1000 words. It is recommended that you discuss the rate(s) with the editor upon the acceptance of your pitch.
