ABOUT THE ROLE

English Touring Opera are looking to recruit a freelance Writer to write a new opera for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) audiences, due to premiere in autumn 2024.

ETO reach over 50,000 people per year with four mainstage producations and two specially commissioned operas for children.

One of the specially commissioned operas is for young people with SEND, and tours to public venues and special schools. ETO have a longstanding reputation in this area, with previous operas of this kind including How to find your name, The Extraordinary Adventures of You and Me (both YAMAwards 'Best Opera' Nominated), Waxwings, This is my bed, and Zoo!

We are looking for the Writer to come on board to write the story and libretto for the piece. They will be supported by ETO's Head of Learning & Participation who can give advice and input about the specific requirements of writing for SEND audiences and opera lyrics.
