Jane Lee, Senior Director of Operations at iThrive Games, is looking for writers:
Location: Remote (must be based in the United States)
Rate: $60 — $100/hr; up to 40 hours weekly. (Please note that this is a listing for freelance writers and an independent contractor position.)
iThrive Games is looking for passionate freelance Game Writers to join our network of creatives who care deeply about teen thriving. As a nonprofit design firm that leads the creation of impactful, wellness-supporting play experiences for young people, iThrive Games engages video game writers on a contractual basis to lend their genius to specific projects and work with our teen mental health experts, subject matter experts, and our advisory of teens. Contracted game writers will support narrative design by authoring and revising storyline content to support games' objectives, lore, characters, environment, etc.
THE IDEAL WRITER FOR AN ITHRIVE GAMES PROJECT IS SOMEONE WHO:
- relishes in the creative brainstorming and writing process;
- is energized by collaboration and partnership;
- values diversity, equity, inclusion, and authentic representation;
- creates with the game's objectives and young audience in mind, centering teen players' reactions and preferences over their own;
- has an active imagination and excels at building lore through storylines and dialogue; and
- has a deep love for games and a thorough understanding of systems and logic in game design.
REQUIREMENTS: ITHRIVE GAMES NEEDS GAME WRITERS WHO:
- have at least three years of scripting experience in game development and/or interactive storytelling;
- have experience in open world and non-linear game dialogue, and working with and in game engines;
- know modern video games and are aware of industry trends; and
- have shipped at least one game in a narrative design or scripting role.
