Ali M. Latifi, Asia Editor at The New Humanitarian, is looking for pitches:
The New Humanitarian is looking for freelance writers to pitch unique, unreported (or rarely reported) humanitarian-related stories out of Asia. If it has been reported in the past, should include some new angle/information that hasn't been explored before. Rates: Up to $0.40 a word per reported feature. New writers are welcome, but remember, the pitches have to be about the Asian continent (pretty much anywhere in the Asian landmass) and have to have a very strong, clear humanitarian angle. Email ali@thenewhumanitarian.org with three (ish) published clips. Use "PITCH: Asia - [your headline]" as the subject line.

TO HELP YOU CRAFT YOUR PITCH:
- Learn more about the publication: The New Humanitarian reports from the heart of conflicts and disasters to inform prevention and response. As a news source on humanitarian crises, its reporting gives insight to policymakers, practitioners, and others who want to make the world more humane. The New Humanitarian was founded by the United Nations in 1995, out of the conviction that objective on-the-ground reporting of humanitarian crises could help mitigate or even prevent future disasters. More information here.
- Read through a selection of recent Asia-related articles/stories on its website.
- Review the submission guidelines here. Note that these are the publication's general guidelines to help you refine your pitch. You must still follow the editor's specific instructions above.
- Check out our collection of pitch excerpts on this page and find more sample pitches at The Open Notebook and at SuccessfulPitches.com.
- Do not forget to end your pitch with (1) a short introduction about yourself; (2) a few lines highlighting your writing experience, relevant credentials and publication credits; and (3) links to your strongest work or portfolio, and online profile.
