Pitches wanted (resilience, adventure) | 50+ cents per word

Deadline: 2 August 2023
Ryan Wichelns, Founding Editor of Trails, is looking for pitches:
I feel like I have just enough time to stick my head above water between Issues 3 and 4 to say we still have some departments assignments to hand out for the winter issue of Trails Magazine!
We're budgeting almost $23,000 for this issue—come get some!
Our extremely vague theme for this issue: resilience. Seriously, interpret that however you want. We already have features about the backpacking community in a certain eastern European country, hardy pine trees, thus summer's PCT hikers, etc.
What we still need: Blazes. These are short (typically 400 words) but can be about basically anything. Gear, profiles, news, opinion, whatever short thing comes to mind.
Trip Report: The story of a really unique, out-of-the-box multiday adventure. In the past we've covered DIY routes across the Grand Canyon, Jalisco, and Colorado. They key is that these are unique. Usually as-told-to style.
Unreviewed: Gear! Short straight-up reviews, profiles of cool brands, trends in the backpacking gear industry, etc.
Stasia Stockwell is also on the hunt for an essay, food, and skills stories. And Emily Sullivan is still looking for a key photo feature, plus various Vantage Points. WAY more info about each of these sections here: http://trailsmag.net/contribute Pitch us before our meeting next Thursday!
