Deadline: 10 November 2023
At Peace Insight, we're looking for new written and multimedia content, particularly interested content exploring peacebuilding in restricted civic spaces, local atrocity prevention efforts, and international partnerships' impact on peacebuilding.
Read on to discover more about the key topics we're interested in, and how to pitch your content.
PARTNERSHIPS
On International Day of Peace, 21 September, Peace Direct launched a new guide: Transforming Partnerships in International Cooperation. It provides a clear, practical guide to decolonising partnerships in the humanitarian, development and peacebuilding sectors.
The guide explores the problems plaguing partnerships in their current form - eg, too often, they are exploitative and transactional, undermining local actors’ value, agency and dignity and reinforcing colonial power imbalances. We know that it's imperative to address these problems, which undermine local peacebuilders and the sustainability of peace itself. For that reason, the guide offers recommendations to transform every aspect of partnerships between entities in the Global South and North, based on consultations with 200 participants from 70 countries.
We'd like to continue this conversation about the partnerships between entities in the Global North and South. If you are a local peacebuilder in the Global South with experience of working with international NGOs, donors or other Global North entities, we want to hear from you. Share your opinion and insights on the state of partnerships in international cooperation. Tell us about the impact of these partnerships in your work - be honest about any problems you've encountered, share good practices, and/or highlight how things should change.
RESTRICTED CIVIC SPACES
In late October, Peace Direct and several Local Action Fund partners held a learning exchange focused on peacebuilding in restricted civic spaces. They came together to discuss the unique challenges faced by peacebuilders working in countries where civil society is being actively repressed, such as in Afghanistan. Crucially, they exchanged insights on how they overcome these challenges to build peace and support their local communities.
We invite local peacebuilders to continue this conversation by sharing stories of local peacebuilding work in restricted civic spaces. We'd like to hear about the work you do, the challenges the restrictions pose, and how you overcome them.
LOCAL ATROCITY PREVENTION
December marks 75 years since the creation of the UN Genocide Convention, which was created after the Holocaust to prevent and punish future genocides. As much attention will be given to the role of the international community, we'd like to learn more about the role of local peacebuilding efforts in trying to prevent atrocities like genocide, ethnic cleansing, crimes against humanity, and war crimes.
We're also aware that for many local peacebuilders, international definitions of atrocities and atrocity prevention don't match up with the reality of local peacebuilding efforts or local experiences - we're interested in content discussing this too.
If you are a local peacebuilder, or a journalist with strong connections to local peacebuilding in your area, please send us a pitch for content exploring these ideas for the chance to have your work featured on Peace Insight.
Deadline for submissions: 23:59 GMT on 10 November 2023.
HOW AND WHAT CAN I PITCH?
Please send us a 250-word pitch about your content to this form. - focus on the key message or argument of the article and highlight any organisations that you might interview or discuss. Remember that Peace Insight focuses on local peacebuilding efforts.
Content we're interested in receiving pitches for: 800-word written articles (including profiles/interviews), videos, photo essays and more.
Once our team has selected the content to take forward, we'll agree a timeframe for receiving content. We will be aiming to publish this content in the weeks around International Women's Day, but are always interested in content on this topic. Therefore, please do pitch your idea even if you will not be able to produce the content to that timeline, as we may consider working with you later in the year.
